The Most Anticipated Films of 2024: #17 – Jim Jarmusch’s Father Mother Sister Brother

Jim Jarmusch’s last film was the less-than-spectacular The Dead Don’t Die, but before that, it was Paterson, arguably the best film he’s ever made. He’s been relatively quiet since, but rumours are spreading that he’s making a new film for the upcoming year. The film, tentatively titled “Father Mother Sister Brother,” will mark his reunion with actress Cate Blanchett, who previously collaborated with Jarmusch in the 2003 anthology “Coffee & Cigarettes.”

Although specific plot details of Father Mother Sister Brother remain under wraps, Jarmusch has described the project as “a funny and sad film.” This intriguing description aligns well with Jarmusch’s signature style, which often blends humour with a poignant exploration of human emotions and experiences.

The film is a joint venture between Animal Kingdom and CG Cinema and has already begun production in West Milford, New Jersey. Filming will continue in Paris in the upcoming year. As Jarmusch is a major director, there are plenty of people interested in the project, although details are scarce so far.

With production anticipated to wrap up by spring, there is hope that Father Mother Sister Brother will grace the screens before the end of 2024, although this is not a foregone conclusion and it might take until 2025 for this film to be released.

Release Date: Unknown (Hopefully 2024)

Will It Be Good?

Considering we know so little about the film, it’s hard to assess if it’ll be a hit or not. But Jarmusch is one of the most talented directors of all time, and as such, it’s hard not to lose yourself imagining what the film will be like. Similarly, Blanchett is perhaps the best actress of her generation, so there is no reason to think she’ll let us down.

There are no guarantees in this industry, but this sounds like it should be worth watching.

Will It Be Worth Watching? Yes
